Has anyone made a mod to chill out the Syndicate?

I get that the Syndicate bases its military philosophy on the tiny ship swarm, but every time I reach midgame it seems they have hundreds of fighters milling around their sectors. I get a feeling this really drags on CPU performance. Honestly, I'd disable ToA if I weren't so in love with VRO, so short of that, has anyone made a mod to at least thin their horde out somewhat? I haven't been able to find one in half an hour or so of digging; other solutions also appreciated.

You are absolutely correct - Syndicate tends to start the game with 500+ S ships and it only grows from there.
The only idea I'd have would be to reduce quotas on their jobs, but this will skyrocket their chance of getting annihilated.
