How do I disable the display of the controller layout in X3AP?

With X3: Albion Prelude 3.0 support for gamepad controllers was added to the game. The default controller layout is displayed as an overlay over the loading screens. You can disable this overlay by removing the tick from the 'Display Controller Layout' box in the X3: Albion Prelude start screen under 'Input Device'.
