What am I doing wrong? The pilot of the ship I'm trying to capture won't bail out.

There are a number of possible reasons that could explain this.
  • The target's hull is not below 87%. No pilot will bail out from a ship that isn’t damaged enough. Get the hull down to 87% or below and try again.

  • The ship might be damaged but a pilot will only eject if the shields are down. There are 2 ways to proceed one the hull is sufficiently damaged. You can let the shields recharge and then take them down or try and keep them at zero. The second method normally results in a quicker capture but the hull will generally take more damage and/or equipment in the process.

  • Capturing is based on a random event; some pilots bail out as soon as the hull reaches 87% and some stay in to the bitter end. This is where luck comes into capturing. Sometimes a ship seems un-capturable. You may want to leave a ship and go after another target first before trying again. Generally it’s not worth spending more than a few minutes on a single ship, so just destroy it and find another target.
