The only way to get similar frame rates is to turn all the settings to low. But the X700pro was on default settings. I've also downloaded the latest drivers on both cards. So I shall be taking the card back this evening.

You can get the latest drivers from Saitek.
It is a known problem with XP and Saitek so the Saitek fixed the drift, if you already have the new drivers then all you need to do on start up is twist the joystick in all directions and this will recalibrate it.
