your startup screen will tell u what version you are using.
If you have installed the patch correctly u should be seeing 1.4

10 is high enough for universal trading providing u have full shields and a jump drive.
he will get his own jump drive but it will cost u.
also look at command screen if he detects a threat he may wait for your help to restart him trading
