Re: Playing other games

Playing Genesis: Alpha One and They Are Billions. Picked them both up cheaply on xbox. The first has you building a big factory ship to tinker with human genetics to seed the galaxy - lots of fun. TAB I have only just started - tower defence town building RTS. Frustrating, but I'm learning it. No tu...

Re: What are you watching now ? Movies and TV

Watched Fallout. Thought it was great, no real complaints other than it was too short. S2 was confirmed before S1 aired. Also watching The Regime, three or four episodes in and they've managed to not name this Eastern European nation. Great acting, and I'm not sure who is more insane: the Chancellor...

Re: Starfield: Thoughts?

Still an awesome game, totally worth any price. There are discussions wether game A or game B are an alternative, but it is like X4 - there is only one game with that particular feature set. Where everybody places their priorities is highly subjective, there is no objective answer possible. Most co...

I wonder how much money they threw at him to step down? Got to have been a big Golden Parachute there, but he's being replaced temporarily with some ex-Red Hat exec. Either way, bye John!

Re: Unity, - bad and worse then bad

Ars have had a few things to say on this, from a legal perspective that boiled down to "it's in the fineprint, technically... yeah, they can", and most recently this soft-touch interview where lesser-Big Room guy Marc Whitten tried to claim they didn't realise it would all be quite so bad and honest...

I dunno, the stuff in my Captain's Locker vanished when I detached the cockpit to insert a new module. Was annoyed, there was some good stuff in there.

Also worth checking for hardware conflicts; the northbridge of a previous PC motherboard did not get on with the Nvidia graphics card.

Playing it on Games Pass, and my review is simple.

Fallout 4, if the US-China war never happened.

Re: learning French

I don't speak French, but this film, The Brand New Testament is pretty good, is funny (I especially liked the priest losing his temper and beating up God when he realised that loon was telling the truth) and is written and acted in French (I had English subtitles).

Bonne chance!

Re: SpaceX Starship

It's looking like Starship may attempt launch next week. What do you guys think the chances are that it'll reach orbit? Pretty low, they're not planning to do a burn to circularise the orbit apparently. Arc up, over and right back down. No belly flop manoeuvre or attempt at slowing down - expect to...

Re: Cyberpunk 2077

Picked this up on sale on the Xbox. It's not bad so far, although I'm doing what I always do in open worlds: ignore the plot and wander around killing people and finding things. One funny bug was V performed a finisher move with mantis blades, leaving the dead person stood T posing over me in an app...

Re: Russia-Ukraine War

Sorry, the world does not work that way. Today, Ukraine and Russia are two sovereign states / countries. The same as USA, China, India and any of the other 190 countries that currently exist. This is the only thing that counts. You do realize that your argument could just as easily be used to justi...

Re: Russia-Ukraine War

About the war. I am more and more convinced that you Westerners look at this war as a cartoon ... as a computer game: "Oh, look how strong they are. Let's give them even more weapons so that they resist more" . No, I regard it as the last gasp of a dying leader to make his mark on history before it...

Re: Russia-Ukraine War

Good to see Ukraine resisting the Russian invaders. The Soviet Union collapsed shortly after the failed invasion of Afghanistan, perhaps we'll see the collapse of the Russian Federation in the near future? 1) Don't you want to go there to fight since you are so happy with the "successes of Ukraine"...

Re: Fusion breakthrough

The BBC covered this recently, and one thing that jumped out was that the power for the lasers wasn't included in the power cost calculations!

On the bright side, there's a new, low-power, method for extracting hydrogen and oxygen directly from seawater! Linky.

Re: What are you watching now ? Movies and TV

Just began watching Misfits, it has some funny bits here and there. Misfits is fantastic. Rudy is great (the actor's also great in Preacher). Just finished the last series of Agents of Shield and am now watching Who's Line Is It Anyway? with the kids, and watching Justified myself. Just started ser...

Re: Looking for games with "The Expanse" setting

Delta V: Rings of Saturn is kinda expanse-y. Top down mining game with gameplay that has to be justified by the physics. Great little dev team (I've found bugs, they fixed them, I suggested stuff, they added some of it).

It's also on sale for less than £4 at the mo!

Re: SpaceX is doing it again

According to their tweets, everything went smoothly until a low head tank pressure caused the hard landing. We were watching and had a few "is that *supposed* to be on fire?" discussions when they were doing the engine cutoffs and tank switches though! Same with me and the kids! Let them watch it b...
