The game works very well at 1024 with an FX card, at all other res's radeons are faster though. I think that res was optimised for nvidia cards. Very cheeky if you ask me.

I still play an updated version of the original on my gameboy.

Theres something about the simplicity that makes it compelling. X2 leaves absolutely nothing to the imagination.

Thats unlikely in the extreme. I've had a similar thing happen and I'm running from the original CD and around the same point in the missions. I ran a script to spawn 5 Khaak destroyers in a Xenon sector to experiment, watch the fight and see who would win (the ridiculously powerful Khaak ships did....

If you outfit your disco properly then they can be fairly formidable, especially if you play on the fact that the enemy AI hasn't got a clue how to take it when you strafe off to a safe distance at 500 odd kph before making another attacking run.

The strafe drive makes combat far too easy.

I've never seen a hull eating anything other than pranging your ship into an asteroid/ship/station/gate. Only a few systems that chew shield. I forget the names as it doesn't really bother me.

Also, Goner ships don't have guns.

How many EC's to jump to the next system and does that multiply/divide the further you jump? Sorry, I've never bothered doing the math on it, only estimating around 60 EC's per average jump.

I was wondering about this after I was asking ships for directions early on in the game and accidently told a Goner ship to surrender. I was pretty shocked when they did surrender without a struggle.

Perseus' are great, but they're let down by the complete lack of cargo space. You wouldn't be able to deck it out with good shields and guns AND have enough space to keep enough energy cells to make a short jump. Other than that, its a top notch killing machine.

The SecuROM copy protection is implemented by the publisher and has various known problems with various drives. You might be lucky enough to get a Firmware update from the drive's manufacturer, but failing that, I believe there are patched .exe files that you can use so the CD isn't needed in the dr...
