oh it is, to get it to go like that, use the additional ship commands, and tell it to fire however many you want, (I choose 50), then go to the second additional ship command and do it again. if you do it with just the one, then it slowly fires a volleys of missiles, if you tell it to do it a second...

I've just discovered the secret, on how to make sure that the AI doesn't shoot down your missiles, making them useful, and highly amusing at the same time! but mostly just amusing, and highly impractical.
