You eject them from your ship like cargo, once they're in space you can target them and give instructions to them either, individualy or as a group as you do with other owned ships.

The best buys and best sells upgrades only (currently) work from the players own ship, but they will allow you to remote trade through any of your other ships, not automaticly tho, you will need the Mk3 trade software for that.

If your not already on a mission, just a trade run you might want to check the board messages before selling the goods, If a factory is short of a resource they sometimes offer a mission, and a better price of course, for goods you already have. If you don't have the full amount they need, at least ...

For information regarding the X universe you can hardly beat CJs site, there are many other related sites out there and most are very good but CJs at http://the-commander.com/ is certainly one of the most comprehensive.
