If we take a look at the previous title launches, we may see that only the "first" games suffer from gamebreaking bugs. The second ones, that were built upon the previous engine OR previous principles, they were alwayd fine at launch.

So, since X4 has the base structure of an almost fully patched up Rebirth, there really shouldn't be a flop. Or at least, I would be surprised.

Pre-ordered Rebirth... well it didnt go well in my case.
TC is still holding on my end the crown when it comes to value delivered. Even AP didnt come close it. Only Elite in the 80s fared better when it comes to Space Sims.
Will wait and see this time. Sorry ES
Its a problem if you don´t have any problems.

Please Egosoft do it right this time.

Post by mycroftcanadans » Fri, 26. Oct 18, 03:47

Hi.

I have played your games, and loved every one of them, and when Rebirth was released I jumped on board without even looking, and you really hurt me with that release. I put allot of energy into following a developer, but even more into the games you release, and now because of Rebirth I am going to sit back, and watch when before I would buy in without question because I simply trusted you.

Please Egosoft, please do this right. Instead of me getting in on the first day, I now have to wait, and see how it goes.

I know your releases have bugs, I get it, and 99 percent of the time you fix the issues, and the modding community is fantastic.

Anyway, I have the game in my wishlist for steam to help support you, but now I'll have to wait to see what happens.

Well, Egosoft got me once more. Even after Rebirth and the disappointment that came with it. Absolutely not my game.

Since X4 is advertised, as the title states, as x3's successor i'm optimistic that it will turn out to be a good game. I'm somehow prepared to find an unfinished game that will need quite a few patches... but as long as it is good at its heart i can go with this. With good community feedback and enough time (aka. patches, addons, mods) it will be a good game at some point in the future. :D

So... i preordered the collectors edition ofc.

I pre-ordered with zero reservations. I even splurged on the CE. Nov. 30 neatly coincides with a mysterious lower back problem that I'm going to be suffering from for a few weeks away from work.

My first preorder. My 2k+ hours of TC+AP+rebirth is totally worth the the game and its upcoming dlc.

So, I was not sure about the game at first and was not sure about preordering especially after the rebirth fiasco, but when the egosoft 30 year stream came out, I was excited and I preordered the CE.

Since then not a peep from the developers. Even the beta testers have been asked to keep their mouth shut. Unlike many people on this forum, I can only afford to buy one game a quarter or so. Right now given all the secrecy, I just don’t feel good about the game anymore and I cancelled my preorder.

I wish the developers at least discussed their product or something. Hi he daily screenshots are about the only thing I saw and they were not enough for me. I guess I will be buying this game later when it inevitably goes on sale.

The 30th years celebration stream was on June 20th. Preordering the CE has only been possible since the 1st October 2018. Twelve days before you, Sir, joined this very forum.

If you do not want to preorder, do not do it! It's simple. However, why people have to make up such nonsense stories is beyond me.

Didn't even know a release date was announced until I saw X4 on Steam today. Pre-ordered too, looking forward to playing X4.

I too found the Elite mission structure shallow and repetitive and it was the reason I eventually stopped playing. I felt I had "done it all" once I got the ships I wanted and had been where I wanted to go and upgraded everything I wanted to improve. I don't care for PVP so I wasn't looking for that at all.

I did a lot of exploring which was great but ultimately samey once you'd seen the main galactic objects.

For X, I don't mind a bit of Campaign Story as long as it doesn't restrict the typical X game sandbox freedom. I'd be happy with optional story arcs that I can pick up and put down as I want.
I would prefer that the activities I go looking for are solid and robust enough to keep me engaged time and again.
It's what I had feared, Frontier Elite 2 was exactly the same, it's just looks like a remastered version of it with PVP thrown in. But then the moment they said no single player or resource management then I stopped following the Dev Diary.

I'm not bothered about pre-orders, physical boxes and all that jazz, give me an option to pay for a glossy manual and i would be in!
I am with you on this, I really, really need a written manual and maybe even a Prima Strategy Guide with a game this complex. I envy all the guys who can learn and REMEMBER from video tutorials, I'm not one of them. I have all of these X games and the only one I have gotten into at all is X3 AP and that not much past basic trading. I just have a hard time with a little tip here and another guide there. I too would pay for a Comprehensive Printed manual. The graphics and ships, space, stations, and all the stuff in the game looks so great. I hope I don't get into X4 just to find I am totally lost without a clue what to do next or where to go to do it. LoL

There will doubtlessly be some Steam user guides after release, although the quality of most is usually questionable :D

Trading is probably one of the most complicated activities in the X series, 2nd to station building/management. So I think you know more than you think you do :P

Start off small and focus on 1 thing at a time, just pilot 1 ship and trade until you're the best damn trader there is. Buy a bigger ship now and then with your credits, which will slowly teach you about ship types and turret management and armaments too. Maybe later you feel like adding a 2nd ship to follow you as an escort so you get familiar with some of the commands to give via the map. Then before you know it, you'll be managing a larger and larger fleet and doing only the most lucrative trade deals yourself.

It's all about putting the hours in to learn the game, it's really not as complicated as you make it seem and hopefully all the new UI stuff, especially the rts style map, should help make it even more intuitive than previous games in the series.

I've just refunded the standard edition of X4 on steam because I now want the Collectors Edition.

The paint mod requires me to link my purchase to my egosoft account and I did link my standard edition to my egosoft account, I'm wondering if I'm going to have any issues linking my CE to my egosoft account though?

@ I3laze: What is required is to link your Steam and Egosoft accounts with an update of Steam ownership registrations applied, and It sounds as if you have done that - you can always select update registrations again to make sure.

Different Steam product items such as the preorder basic and CE editions should not cause any internal confusion over pre-ownership, I would think. In any case, I don't think a valid refunding prevents you from buying the same Steam item again later on should you so wish.

Back For Another Go

Post by rmpow » Sat, 10. Nov 18, 14:26

So...

Bought it, waiting, and spending every waking moment praying it is nothing like Rebirth....

and when I'm not praying I'm back playing X3TC to get me in the mood, now that WAS a game.

But this is really just a post to say 'Hi all'
What do you get if you listen to suggestions by players of Rebirth? Walking around stations in a space sim!
