Station Building - Modules do not need to be attached - Still true?

Post by alt3rn1ty » Sat, 4. May 24, 20:52

I have seen a very old topic which I only just found out about today, with input from the Devs :
viewtopic.php?f=146&t=414062
(Didn't want to necro a really old topic).

Quotes from that topic ..

Modules do not need to be visually connected to work.
Only exception are the venture modules.

"what if you put a microchip production attached to one dock with wheat attached to a different dock", which probably would break things if they all needed to be connected.
If that microchip and wheat modules are in the same station, they will produce no matter where they are placed and to which dock they are connected.
With so many updates to the game since then, is the above still true?
Marvellous for performance if it is, I didn't know we could do this.
I just want to check before I go changing designs that nothing changed since.

Yes, still true. Indeed it's my standard method of building. Find having modules physically connected constrains architectural possibilities too much. Still use a lot of basic structural elements, but they're entirely aesthetic. Even on my largest stations (e.g. this one) very few of the modules are connected to annything else.

Thank you GCU for confirming, its good to know because I have a shipyard that would benefit from a bit of optimising with less parts.
Also wow!, thats one hell of a station. My machine would be on its knees just trying to build it :)

For really big stations have found that turning down the LOD setting makes the most difference when my machine starts to struggle with station building. Also makes it less of a slideshow if I need to visit the station in person.
