[3.30+SV]Problems with direct mouse steering mode

Playing tutorial, trying to learn the game that I just bought. Mouse works fine in menus, platform movement or catch-the-dot modes, but in direct steering mode the steering becomes very slow. There's a very narrow range of mouse movement speed from very slow to slow where ship responds with increasing steering speed, but if I move the mouse any faster it drops to a very slow steering. Basically, like trying to turn an M2 without rudder upgrades in X3 series.

Do you have some form of logarithmic mouse setup? With no information to go on, we cannot really help or advise you. Anyway, it does sound like a mouse driver or mouse sensitivity/scaling set-up issue. Some players encountered somewhat similar mouse/stick/controller problems when they mixed up digital and analogue game input options.

Thanks. Unfortunately the DxDiag hasn't helped much. There are a few points from it that I'll list below but I don't think they are necesssarily involved in your mouse issue:

• 1. You are at the minimum for the game in terms of graphics card VRAM (3 GB). Whether that might affect view rotation speed in-game, I'm not sure.
  
  2. I know it is for Win7 but can your 2019 Nvidia graphics driver be updated? You may benefit from the latest Vulkan updates.
  
  3. You have 2 different *sound* devices and drivers on the go at the same time (Nvidia 2019 and Realtek 2015). Decide which you want use, update it if possible, and disable the other in Device Manager, Sound/Audio Devices (right-click on a device in the list for an enable/disable pop-up).
  
  4. Not an X4 issue usually, but you probably won't need whatever codec pack (k-lite, cccp, etc) installed the Haali codecs. I would uninstall it if at all possible.

Have you looked in your mouse control panel or in Windows Control Panel to see if any of the mouse settings options there make any difference with your issue in-game? Have you checked what mouse inputs you have set up in-game and whether they suit your mouse outputs?

Last thought, do you have v-sync enabled (in-game and/or forced in the graphics card control panel) to prevent screen-tearing on rotation? That might be a limitation when resources are stretched and you could try without it.

Doh, it's working now. I haven't changed any video settings after installing the game except switching display mode to borderless window and now after your tip I've discovered that vsync was off. I've turned it on and it fixed my issue.

Also, not sure why dxdiag reports 3GB memory, RTX2060 has 8GB. Nvidia control panel says 8192 MB of dedicated video memory and game performs very smoothly, doesn't feel like gfx card is anywhere near it's limits (you can usually hear it when that happens )

Hmm, something is not right if DxDiag says this:

Dedicated Memory: 3072 MB <- VRAM
Shared Memory: 1023 MB <- Slower system RAM used for loading textures and assets etc needing more than the VRAM.

It implies that something internal or external may be limiting the VRAM allocation at that time. You don't have any Virtual Machines or background apps heavily using or reserving graphics resources do you?

Personally I would have expected v-sync -> ON to make the issue worse rather than better; still maybe it woke up a part of your graphics driver that was having a siesta.
