Destroyer class ship.

Post by Turricanion » Sat, 31. Dec 05, 04:58

Okay, who here has played enough to own an m2 class ship?

Post if you own one through playing (or by script, but state so) As i have played for ages and still am not ranked enough for one.

What weapons do you have on it.

How does it fair against fighters, m6, m1, m2, m0, m5, m3, m4, ts, tl, tp class ships?

Any tips you can share that you learn't while piloting your m2?

rank is not a problem.
Money is the problem.

I have been playing for a while now
I am playing an un-scripted game, i always think a game is best played to start with the way it was intended
when i have got to the top then i look at scripts

since the patch i managed to get high enough to buy a titan, and equip it with various weapons, from PPC's to BHEPTS

Just completed an assination mission with the titan, i have been doing them all in the Nova, but in this one i was up against 3 centar's and although i tried a few times i only even managed to kill 2 of them before getting killed myself.
Titan took them out in 2 mins only losing about 20% shields

i have even not got high enough rank with the parinid since the patch to be able to buy the hurcules

currently , mogul 3% and battlemaster 61%

Hi.
I managed to buy a hurcules last night. i decided to take on a few pirates. IT sucked, it has no foward facing guns, only 4 turrets. 3 pirates killed me in about 2 min with full sheilds. i dont sagest using the hualers in battle. what is very cool bout that class is that you can store fighters on it. some destroyer classes can carry 65 ships. Any way, so i reloaded to before i bought the large piece of crap, and i poped over to argon prime and bought a Centuer. Not too bad. Fast enough in a straight line. 3 turrets and 8 foward facing guns.
Good cargo hold, nice sheilds. Still get busted by pirates, havnt been able to buy enough sheilds. Very slow at turning. I think the Dragon, which is also a corvette class at only 7 mill is the one to have. good fire power and flies like a heavy fighter.

does that help

unscripted, with 1.3 (start from scratch), took me 2 weeks to get a fully kitted M2 out and fielded (got the weapons, items, etc first, then bought it)

Was a huge feeling of satisfaction when I did :) and yes, its the money/weaponhunt that's the problem, not the rank.

As of right now, I own 4 Rays, 1 Titan and 1 Python. Have owned the Rays forever, ever since I got my Boron rank (mostly from 4 Boron complexes I own, and about 30 days of game time worth of SETA). The Titan is a recent addition (finishing plot + 1.3) but I probably logged close to 30 hours in it. And the Python, I *just* got and equipped (lots of assassination missions). I have enough money to buy 10 more Pythons but see no use for them at the moment.

As for weapons, some people swear by GPSG, but I find it that only B/GPPC and FLAK guns are of any use for an M2. Everything esle is too weak and inaccurate to do any significant damage. GPPC is good for capital ship/m6 combat, and FLAKs take care of the fighters.

A Titan can take out any single ship you pit it against. Or two. Or three. Or ten. Or 30... And so on. That is, if you know what you are doing. And I imagine if one's good (I am trying to get there), he should be able to handle an entire Xenon sector on one shield charge (8-9GJ) in relatively short time, say, 1 hour of game time.

I think my single biggest Titan run was jumping into Xenon 598, and killing about 6 J/K and all their escorts (~40-50? L/M/N) plus 2 P groups in about 15 minutes.
I just took the Python into a Khaak sector for a test run. I killed 4 Khaak M2s and god knows how many fighters (clusters and single fighters kept spawning right on top of me), before another destroyer snuck up on me and started drilling me in the aft, so I had to jump out.

The only problem that I find with an M2, is controlling the view. You have to be constantly aware of every enemy ship around you, as well as their fire, to be effective in an M2. And current F2 view is rather limited for that.

I'm a big fan of the GPSG. Only Paranid M1/M2s can use them.

When I'm going against smaller ships (eg. M6 and smaller), my main artillery is BHEPT and GPSGs. When I'm going against cap ships, my main artillery is PPC and GPSGs.

The great thing with the GPSG is it works against both fighters and big ships, and it's immune to the poor AI targetting due to its expanding wave nature. And of course their abitlity to hit multiple targets at the same time. So while you're trying to hit the big ship with your PPC/GPSG combo, that same wave is also blasting away a bunch of fighters you weren't aiming at but is in the same general area!

I want my Kha'ah Destroyer. Everytime I see one in action I can hear that old MC Hammer song "you cant touch this".

You cant get within 4km's without being shat upon. Even launching a salvo of hornets get swated like flies.

Haha, yeah I wouldn't mind trying out one of those for a test spin. Wonder if there are any scripts that allow you to try it out.

Yeah,I've realized this when using my Oddy. in X3 took me almost 43 game days but I finally got it like two days ago & I also understand why they made this the most expensive ship but the main problem that I found was trying to hunt down the GPSG weapons since they're only sold by the Paranid & Teladi.Anyway, tried it out in the pirate held sectors just north of Cardinal's Domain since there is a huge Pirate fleet consisting of at least 40-50 ships literally who were badgering my UT's since day 3,all of them payed even managed to capture quite a few{7}.

The Kha'ak destroyers aren't that hard if you pay attention to how they react. From the 3 that I've killed it's only the turrets at the side that actually shoots down missles whilst the front & back do basically nothing. What I usually do in my dragon is stock up on wasp missles to get there attention at around 6 Km & lure it away from the middle of the sector so my UT's{since for some reason they always seem to jump in the same sector that I'm in} & any other traffic doesn't get hurt while getting it to line up just behind you & use mainly a full stock of tempest{40} & thunderbolt{63} missles to get the shields down to half while it's following you,to finish it off, turn around & launch 8 typhoons{cool missles} & 2 firestorms & no more destroyer.Heh,or if you still have those unknown missles 7-8 should do it.

scripts can get u anything you want

however, in the assassins guild, you get a special prize if you reach level 15 within the guild, and the prize is a kha'ak carrier of ur own ;)

Haha, yeah hunting for GPSG can be a pain. But here's a trick you can use to get lotsa guns. Go to any sector with a shipyard and an equipment dock that sells GPSGs. If it's empty, then sell 2 of yours to them. Now go to the shipyard and buy 10 TSs at the same time and equip them with 2 GPSGs when the equipment menu comes up. Voila! You got yourself 20 GPSGs!!
