Unidentified object (small flying saucer)... :?:

Post by Tarcon » Sat, 2. Apr 05, 08:40

Has anyone else noticed this object and if so, what and who is it?

It appeared to me when I was going to the Paranid Prime sector to contact (what-his-name) about getting the low frequency sensor thing. I followed it for a while but it was hitting speeds of over 400....

It's just a flying saucer! They appear in sectors randomly, although shooting them down will decrease your reputation with the Goners (the conspiracy has already been discussed). They're also a handy way to explore the universe, get a fast enough ship and tell it to follow the UFO.

I noticed that the ufo appears everytime I blow up a cluster. As if this is the inside part of the cluster. When I blow it up, the guy screams NOOOOO, but that is about it. tried to capture it, but no go.

It's not part of a Khaak cluster, and has nothing to do with the Khaak, AFAIK. It's been an Easter Egg since X-T, when the legend of the secret UFO base started. :P

By the way, see if you can find it. :fg:

yes, its on the gravidar, same symbol as the gonner, and yes you can target it.

afaik, there's only ever one. I stuck my peggy onto the one in my game, and never saw another that wasn't followed by my peggy,

Yes.. you can target it, you can follow it, it does appear on the gravdar..

i wouldnt bother hunting for it.. i usually come across it by accident when looking at the sector map..

i think its just called "unknown object"

it just zips around the universe at 450 m/s a disco is well suited to follow it.. (erm.. at least until it flys through a xenon sector anyway..)

i think theres only 1, if you kill it, i think its gone forever..

and u cant cap it...

ive devoted many hours to that persuit..

EDIT.. The T beat me to it..

I have seen it in a plot cut-scene :o .
Spoiler
Show
when you land at antigone memorial planet, look closely, one of the ships flying by will be an UFO
let an octopus follow it, it will X-plore the universe for you!
I just jump in with my M2 fleet if it pases a xenon sector
to whipe it out so that it will pass safely  .

The cut-scenes are rendered using the game engine, and any ships which happen to be nearby could randomly end up in shot. I've never seen a UFO in the cutscene you're talking about.

That is an interesting thing about the cutscenes. By rendering them "on the fly" they can show what is really around. Like the ship you are currently flying. It runs slower but is kind of neat. 8)

X3 is supposed to have them pre-rendered as movies. I hope they keep the relevant shots in the game engine. I remember games that would show the cutscene with you flying the wrong ship.

I think the pre-rendered cutscenes will likely be the ones including people--these are generally derided in X2, and Egosoft don't have the time to perfect them.

The strange thing is that if you kill these things, you hear a man screaming.

Strange, i have reloaded several times to make sure, there IS an UFO flying there in the cutscene.

The scene on antigone memorial (landed at planet) is an exeption, as you are landed at the planet you see exactly the same ships all the time.

It will show up in the trafic when julian have landed and just walked out of the lander(just before the scene when he is going in).

i will post a screenshot soon.
