what was your oddest capture?
Mine was early on in the game. I got caught by a heap of pirates in Family Whi back when I still had a buster, and ran for it.
On my way out I fired at a nova that was attacking me whilst a police ship was attacking him.
Must have been a lucky shot, I didn't even notice that I hit it, so intent was I on escaping. Anyway, I poked my head back into the sector an hour later, and what do I see? That very same Nova, abandoned right where it was when I fired at it.
I guess I must have hit it at just that right second when the cop had his sheilds down, causing him to bail...
Luckily all the other pirates were long gone, so I nabbed it and took it all the way back to argon prime top get fixed up (didn't trust teladi space much back then).
Who needs free ships when you have blind luck to rely on ?

I scanned ships in President's End for illegal stuff, and found a boron smuggler. Fired a few shots at the freighter, and ordered him to drop his cargo (a few times). When I pressed "c" for the ~5th time, I noticed that the target pointer was already blue. It turned out that while I was busy communicating with him, my rear AIRE turret capped the freighter for me... And it had/dropped loads of whisky & crystals too.

Whilst in my Pirate incarnation I attacked a Boron Weapons Dealer Dolphin in the hope of getting him to drop some freight. He bailed so quickly that his three escorts didn't even react. I set the dolphin to work in Empires Edge as a ST training vessel and when, some days later, I was checking on his latest ST's progress he still had three Boron escorts following him everywhere!
Not often you get free protection with freighters!

on a xenon invasion, a Xperimental shuttle spawned as my ally (must have been a bug). We went for it, and i got the pilot to bail. Everyone was quite unfriendly to me at that point, so i had to flee (failing the XI) but when i came back 30 minutes later all hostile ships were gone, and the shuttle was still there. i claimed it (took a couple of screenies, check my xfire profile for them as a proof for this claim). I never fly it though. feels too much as cheating as it can mount Aflaks and has superior weapon energy, speed and rudder.

My captures so far have been rather mundane, but recently i went up with dual APACs against a trio of harriers in formation. a vanguard, a hauler, and a plain vanilla. i chased them down and started firing. capped. swap targets, fire some more.. capped... last one, you guessed it, capped. all three of them.

Playing X2, early in the game, I was running a BBS delivery to Elena's Fortune. In X2, that sector is pirate territory. I'm flying a Boron Dolphin, no jump drive, only an IRE in the back turret. I make my delivery and as I'm leaving the station heading back to President's End, I get jumped by 3 Pirate m5's. They were giving my shields a pretty sound beating, but I had made it to the gate without sustaining much hull damage. Then, just before going through, one of the Pirates raidio's me that he can't take any more and that his ship was mine. I managed to get some help in President's End, survived the ordeal, and came out of it with a fighter to boot.

After having to restart the game i started right of hunting for a cap to make money early on.
After 2-3 hours of no luck , lots of dieing , i finaly got a nova to bail.
The big deal about it was that it was a Nova raider ! My fav nova class.
And i havent seen another nova raider pirate sinds in the last 3 weeks of playing (Still the most used ship atm).

My strangest was a Pirate Buster.
I was using my 'claimed' Buzzard Hauler at the time (god the laser power sucks with apacs) and wasn't even aiming at him. He crossed infront of my line and vacated.
Later, when looking at the stats of the P-Buster, I realized that it was much better than I thought any buster could be (199 speed and 4550 laser). Only 2x 5mj shields though, but at that speed, I dance rings around hostiles. Nice red paint job on it too.

Best capture : a freighter with 8 x 10GJ and 6 x 1GJ shields
Best drop : 15 x GPPC from one Xenon ship in 472 (sum over 120 G-PPC and other varius weapons when clearing the sectror -before 1.4-)

Wierd captures, well I've had a few. Best one was back in the good old Perseus mission in Xt. I used to capture it for people who were having trouble and once managed to accidently ram it after pressing the boost button by mistake and the pilot bailed out
Not really had anything exciting in X3 yet.

On my second XI mission in Scale Plate Green, I did 205 ships, got 25Mil & did a K and the jumping J (Thanks to some Unknown Objects I had aquired). the J dropped 8xGPPC's sweet ! ! ! No capps then though.
I also did another XI mission in Menelaus' Paradise. there was a P & escort traveling from the east gate during the mission so I bugged out & went for the P before rejoining the XI battle.
I swear just before I got the hull down to zero, the P went blue. Unfortunately when this happened, there was still ammo flyng towards it & it promptly blew up. It was so quick I can't be sure it happened at all but I swear it went blue for an instant !
I also jump in to xenon sectors frequently trying to get kills & pick up unknown objects. In one sector, the L I was targeting bailed. It's still there now, about 5KM from the south gate, but I can't get near it to cap as the two J's & support appear to be using it as bait !

Ha. I didn't think they would fix that! I reported the same bug in X2 and am not suprised that they didn't fix it. Now the interesting part is did they fix the second part of that bug???pccenter wrote:Here some screenshots from my wired capture (check the Cargo and the Cargo bay)

In X2, I found that when the ship was carrying more cargo that it could actually physically carry, you got into a situation at a station that meant buying the ware that you had more stock of than it was possible to hold restocked the station and gave you money. You could even go over the station limit for items. It meant infinite free money!!
In other words, you could have gone to an Ore Mine and bought Ore until ore was flowing out of the ore mine and money was flowing out of subsspace compressed trouser pockets.
I took advantage of the feature once, then reloaded my game as it felt too much like cheating. But it just goes to show that it pays to check what cargo a ship you capture is carrying.

Same with me, the first xenon ship I encountered after installing the patch was a L with a few M's. Thought it was odd because they usually travel in bigger packs. I went for the L first and he bailed right away, I would of had it at 100% hull but a few lingering shots hit the mark.Fekin wrote:Xenon L with 90% + hull first time out playing 1.4
Haven't seen much Xenon in non-xenon sectors since.
