I was being smart ! ) but neverless it did get attention .. and The game in question is a Smart game .. I know its a highly technical game to play and not so 'Pretty' so people would of left it on the shelf .. as the too hard basket .. but it started something and that to me is cool .. I can't wait for Universal Combat!! hehe keep smiling all ..
From One mans Dream .. Comes a Universe
I really liked Tachyon. It may have had more to do with it being the first game I played online then actualy being good. Playing a game online for the first time back then was special, these day's you get morons in there that annoy people more then play the game!
Bruce Campbell is funny as hell in it, as always!
Base Wars is a fun mp mode. It's a shame they didn't have a better mp service for it. But I did kick ass in it.
I still have some people on my contact list that I met in that game too. Can't say the same for Elite Force (only other game I really played online). So I remember Tachyon in a very good way because of all the other good memories it helped create. Good friends, good fun.
Something has to be said for Tie Fighter too. Best Star Wars game before Jedi Knight 2, and still #1 for me in space combat. SW Alliance may be good for some, but it never took me in like Tie Fighter did.

I'm was just poking fun, I might like it if I could get a grasp on the controls.Hyridium wrote:I was being smart ! ) but neverless it did get attention .. and The game in question is a Smart game .. I would have to say Elite.
This game grabbed my attention and i remember playing it when i was of from school (sick day) for eight hours on my acorn electron only to press the break key before i had chance to save it onto tape.
Yes this is what it was like, thats for the younger people here. It didnt matter though you just started again.
Let us not forget that only three years before this game came out some of us were typing in basic on the zx81 to get a block to go across the screen and fire another block at it to get a point.
This game was completely original and others have copied it but none have come close for me.
I am waiting for my copy of x2 i loved the rest of the x series. This has been the closest anybody has come to help me to relive my youth

Id have to say freelancer or Independence War EC.
Freelancer is better than X2 because of two reasons.
It got multiplayer, and for the time being it actuelly works When the patch comes out then ill be able to play some more, that might get me to change, but as long as there aren´t any multiplayer, it won´t be the best game ever sorry
But like ive said before, if X2 would have had multiplayer it would have been the best game ever in all categories

Has to be Elite... I got that game for my C-64, and it was the very first 3D space simulation I'd ever seen. Amazing that you could even do that on a 1MHz CPU, let alone have a really nice SID music soundtrack and, of course, all the trading aspects of the game.
A year or so ago, someone wrote an article in one of the game rags about the history of the first person shooter, and they claimed that Wolfenstein 3D was the first one. I had to correct them, as Elite had it beat by 10 years, and I think Red Baron (Atari arcade game) was a few years older still.
I also liked Starlancer for the Amiga -- the only computer I know that had a full graphical breakout game (using the mouse) coded in the boot sector of a floppy.

An impressive feat, given that elite was only written 19 years ago...hellhawk wrote:Elite.
Started me playing computer games, started me on programming, was the reason I bought my first computer 25 years or more ago. A classic. Elite is to computer games what Klondike is to solitaire.
... and I still get it out occasionally and play it

I invested hours into those to games... very fond memories. I think the simultion component of those games was rather great actually! Did you ever try out the mission editor? Hehe, I tried replicating the battle of Endor once *grin*, 'twas most fun indeed!Avis wrote:X-Wing - Tie Fighter games, another missing entity,, and for all Wingcommander effectively set the ball in motion for a whole genre of space sims they also pushed a retired porn star and mark hamil on us again,,
but like X-Wing and Tie Fighter for all they were hugely entertaining I personaly think they wernt so much simulators as shoot em ups (spliting hairs I know )
"It's a trap!"
"Fighters, coming in."
"There's... too many of them!"

Agreed 100%. X-wing and Tie-Fighter where incredible games... After Tie-Fighter, and admiral thrawn, who would NOT join the empire??? Great games... It's a shame Lucasarts let them die... No sequel was ever as good as those...WildKarrde wrote:I invested hours into those to games... very fond memories. I think the simultion component of those games was rather great actually!
