I too bought X-BTF when it first arrived. I registered to all the different forums for X over the years (and we know there have been quite a few :) )

Just to clarify Giskards statement about spam. He mentions newsletters etc that he recieves, obviously by email. But that is OPTIONAL and I never selected that as an option and I indeed NEVER got any newsletters, so if the newsletter thing concerns you, you can opt out of it and NEVER hear from EGOSOFT via email (whether that be good or bad ;) )

Thanks, Bernd, for all your efforts at EgoSoft in getting out the patch as soon as possible. So far, I've played the game for five days and I was floored by the graphics and the gameplay.   I didn't mind waiting a little longer for X2 considering that I do have a life(Yeah, yeah, I know I'm gonna hear it now from all of those "true" gamers out there).

I was looking through the forums before I got X2 and noticed all of the problems people seem to be having with the game like CTDs, system freezes, horrible fps, and the like. Honestly, I haven't had any of those problems with the exception of one CTD and one occurance of the AI crashing my unshielded transporter I was in into a space station I was trying to dock with autopilot--welcome to instant death. :skull:

Anyway, back to playing :x2: and making my preparations to take over the universe. :D

Changed behaviour of fights in non active sectors (sectors where the player is not currently in)
*Quote from patch info

What does this mean? Does this mean my escorts will actually defend my transports now? Cause this has been a huge annoyance for me.

Cheers,

I've got a question about the patch. I am currently renting X2 (I might be getting it for Christmas) I have a savegame that is about 42mb and it is really starting to cause the game to get less and less playable. I think this is due to saving when in the Ore Belt. Once I go out and buy the game (or get it for Xmas), transfer over the savegames and install the patch, will these savegames be okay again? I know the patch will make them get converted and the problem solved, but do I have to load from a small sized savegame, or if say I had a 100mb savegame, would it then resize it when converting to the standard of around 35mb?

Basically I want to know if in the meantime (before I get the patch) I should play using my most current (and too large) savegame, or wait until I get the game and continue using the normal sized savegames.

The patch will repair oversized save games. Bewarned though, it can take a long time, but it does work

Management

Post by Riou » Wed, 24. Dec 03, 08:38

All I really want in a patch would have to be squadrons and more in depth system to manage all the ships we would aquire.

There was a good point in there

Post by Samhorns » Wed, 24. Dec 03, 21:08

That I wish to sniffle about for a sec. I was kind of hoping the patch might effect this whole energy cell being the only worthwhile commodity bit and was sorely dissappointed when I saw it did not. I have seen a subtle change in that I do not seem to find as drastic a price difference in most systems as I used to. Zample would be has anyone seen ECs under 9 after the patch? Okay it curbed the amount of money I can reap easily on ECs but didn't seem to make anything else much more worth trading. If someone has examples/stories to the contrary please uplift my spirits by telling me to quit being blind or something.

@Samhorns
I have been trading Warheads and Silicon wafers which reap much higher profit than ECs. I don't know if these were different before the patch, but there are other commodities worth trading.

Malex, thank you much for the glimmer of hope. After my short tour in the cubicle farms today I shall be heading home to rechart the economy and see if I smoked my lunch ;)

Only one problem 4 me left....

Post by Nidan » Thu, 25. Dec 03, 00:37

Hi Egosoft,

Once again a great game, i'm stuck tho but will find a solution, brennens triumph is really difficult.

But my problem is the next, with the patch installed there is a new feature in the startup menu "EAX", when i switch this on the game after several hours aborts, just like that.

With EAX off the game works fine. Just thought to left you know of my problem.

By the way great work with those two monitor features.

I hope the game will evolve futher and some day an online "cost free" universe will appear.

see u

Well after installing the 1.1 patch it seems to have made things worse , at least before I could run the game , now when I run it the process goes into memory , stays there for about 5 seconds and then quits itself....

Now im left with a game that will run like crap or a game which wont run at all. is this a known problem because I havent been able to find anything about it....

Ok , I enabled compatability mode (im using 2k) and set it to 98 and it brought up an error saying that I have disc emulation software installed , Which is utter rubbish because I dont nor have I ever installed anything like that. But taking compatability mode off will just silently quit after running , I also get told to visit www.securerom.com/emulation which I did and it wants me to run something on my system and then send off information to them , well im sorry but I have no idea what they are collecting about me so im not going to do that , I'd much rather return the game and buy another title , no game is worth the problems this has caused me so far.

I'll give it two more days to know whats going to be done about this and im afraid I'm going to return the game , and I certainly wont be buying any future titles form egosoft if this is what you have to go through :(

Actually , dont worry about replying to this thread , I've given up on the idea of this game now anyway , it was unacceptable the moment it was released , now theres been a patch that (at least for me) has made things far worse , I dont see why I should have to spend my freetime trying to make this work when I can just go and exchange it for something else , however good this game is capable of being its certainly not worth the effort, While I might purchase one of your games again this has certainly been a lesson for me that I should make sure that its not a rush job with untested forms of protection on it.

Hope the people that can get this working will continue to enjoy it though.

Welcome to the glories of Securom, which is designed to work under the belief that all customers are pirates and as such penalizes normal paying customers by having broken installs, major compatibility issues, and crashes. Meanwhile the actual pirates have no problems playing their hacked copies.

Picked up XIII a few weeks ago. Ubisoft uses a copy protection system so bad I could not install the game on my system. Went to Ubi's tech forums for XIII, and found out that the copy protection makes the game refuse to install when using a CD-RW. The official workaround was to use a CD-ROM. I returned the game.

Great, now that I spend 1 hour in registration can someone tell me how to
download this patch, or is it a big techy secret.

An hour?? How on earth did it manage to take that long?

Anyway, to get the patch, go to the Egosoft homepage, click on "Downloads", then on "Downloads for registered X² owners". If you have any problems, try using IE as a small number of people have had difficulties with other browsers.
