Who enjoys the plot?

Post by Syndrome » Mon, 18. Jun 07, 08:38

This is a poll to see how many people actually care about the plot. I know a lot of people don't even do it and just want to get right into the game but personally I love the story. The X3 plot was full of bugs but I still managed to enjoy it. The whole idea of X is great, and, when you think about it, if there was no [at least early] plot, there would be no X games. I understand that the plot is not everything as well though and I don't dwell on it. I think the plot is not only entertaining (at least the idea is anyway) but a good introduction to the new features of each X game.

Anyway, what does the community think?

I personally enjoyed the plot though I did find it a bit frustrating in places - I suppose it's hard to think of really original things to do that appeal to all sorts of players...

Perhaps there should be a suggestions thing for X4 ? At least then ppl would be able to put forward stuff that they like ?

Well why dont you spank me and call me Charlie?

...Well that pretty much sums up what i think about the plot and it's 'difficulty'.

Yes there are many bugs and 'difficulties' in the x3 plot.

Hehe. I remember at the end when you went through the wormhole and had to destroy the station that was falling apart. I was shooting at one of the 'limbs' of the station and a few stray shots went past it and towards the edge of the wormhole. In a few second's I hear something like, "Paranid advise you to stop shooting unholy one".

I cannot find words to describe the sheer horror of X3 plot. Beginning is great but it planes away towards total Uve Boll like horror flick until the anti-climax in the end. When you are done you feel so totally empty and drained of all will power.

X2 plot was enjoyable on many levels compared to X3. Even though it too was tough, but atleast it wasnt as buggy.

I voted: just give me the game. I was not impressed by the plot, which to me seemed lame, and the great thing is I can say this here - and still state without contradiction: X3 rocks, free choice rules, and the plot has not impacted on my love of the game at all, because there are so many other options. :)

So far I'm enjoying it, but I'm on a mission to go after a big ship whith a girl, and its in the begining so I dont know how it will play in the end. I voted that I'm enjoying it.

I quite enjoyed it.

The big battle at the end was kinda fun, although it did turn serious slide-show - many PPCs > my PC.

If someone's going to set up a poll for plot ideas for X4 might I humbly suggest the following mission:

Kidnap mission:

Search a station for a little Argon girl named Susie. She's probably in the casino. Lure her away from her parents and get her on your ship.
You must then rendezvous with some Split slavers who will look after her for the rest of her life and make sure she never gets lost again.

The reward for this mission is that there are no more announcements about Susie!

I am not too sure how you'd fit that into a plot though?

What plot?

Post by Warenwolf » Mon, 18. Jun 07, 14:52

While I am usually tolerant to other people's tastes, I am shocked to see that there are people that enjoyed what passed for story in X3.
Ten minutes ago I was reading a cartoon on the back of the chocalate I was eating and it had more deapth and entertainmaint value than the X3 plot...

In future iterations of X games (if egosoft decides to make one) I hope they drop plot entirely and focus on other parts of the game (If you can't do it right don't do it at all...)

Or snag a few writers that have the calibre of... well... every other department?

I like the idea of a plot, but would like to see one that is more integrated into the universe rather than stand alone.

I mean you do two lousy missions and rack up more kills and reputation due to kamakazi pirates and ka'ach than you normally would in two days of gameplay. That's just a start.

As I've said elsewhere, I'd like to see the game opened up more by allowing you to get out of your ship and interact on the stations in FPS mode. I'll take that over plot any day.

The plot wasnt as bad as I was expecting, but then again, all the reviews didnt leave me expecting much.

There were a few points that just made me want to stop playing
Spoiler
Show
Like chasing your dad through the Asteroid
but it did flow well at least IMO.

My only thoughts are that it needed to be integrated into the universe more for one. With the way the game ended, I was expecting fewer Kh'aak attacks, but lo and behold, I still encounter at least 1 cluster in the time I play.

Also, and I'll probably get questioned about this, but I also would have liked to be constrained to the plot a little more, but not always. I noticed the same problem in Oblivion as in here, but there were a couple of missions that gave you the "We dont have much time, hurry back!" message, yet there was no penalty for going off and building your empire for a month and a half. Now, I'm not saying that once the player starts the plot they cant stop until they finish, but to me, if the story says "We have little time", they mean they have 10 minutes or so, not a week.

I finished the plot and yes it was a chore, but i would not want to see the game without it. Though how come every time you start a game they every one forgets who you are.

I also would have liked to be constrained to the plot a little more
That would completely kill the freedom of X, so I would be extremely against it.
In X² I played a couple of plot missions, then I actually played the game for 6months. While waiting for a loop to filter it's injection, I decided to finish the plot.
Your suggestion would prevent that.
i would not want to see the game without it
Xtension had no plot (save a couple of short missions that weren't exactly "plot"). It is a great game.

I agree that the freedom is a great thing, but when a plot mission starts with "We must get there right away" or somesuch and you can take as long as you like, it can kill the immersion.
