I give up

Post by jpmcmahon » Fri, 27. Jan 06, 14:09

Having spent the entire month of January trying to get this game playable and buying a new controller, 2 new video adapters, a new motherboard and cpu, and new ram.

I am at my wits end.

It's like a bad movie that just keeps getting worse.

I just hope the store will take this POS back.

Could you provide some more info about your problems?

I just picked up the game 3 days ago and played it well on the following hardware:

Amd64@3400+, 1 gig ram, Radeon 9800PRO and now on Radeon x850XT. Works fine in 1024x768.

The latest problem is that the keyboard interface jumps 2 or 3 spaces on each keystroke.

opening the graphics settings fixed it for a short time, now that has stopped working, and only by reloading a previous save game fixes it now.

current system.

Asus A8V
AMD 3500
Corsair 512x2
Logitech FF USB Gamepad
ATI x850 pro
microsoft keyboard
wacom tablet and mouse

I just picked it up a day ago and all it does is CTD on a machine that has never crashed playing the top drawer games. Back to EB games I think. Thank goodness they have a refund policy. Thats 2 CPU's this CTD on my sons' is the second. That says this is rubbish to me..beta patch and all!

Mine plays smooth as butter

AMD 2500xp (1.7 ghz)
1 gig of ram
Nvidia 6600GT (128mb 8x agp)

I play it with all the graphics on high, no AA, 16x Asitropic filtering.

Weird, I got like half the machine you do....

Well I've got a bigger system and it's CTD all the time.

Almost certainly your hardware isnt at fault. Go to the tech support forum, theres a tool there to analyse your video and audio codecs (forget what its called).

My machine is 2 years old now (but has 1 Gb ram), and everything runs fine. Biggest problem I had was working out that you had to install Windows Media Player 10 for everything to run smoothly.

Hope that helps =]

I did the codec thing way back on week 1.

Now it is Mad Boris = Green (after complete XP reinstall)
Attatched to X2 = Fine (no rogue codecs)

runs ok most of the time.

crashes with psg sometimes (updated directx seems to assist this)
low frame rates in ore belt / loads of asteroids. But otherwise playable - and note I'm under min spec too ;)
Alienware Area 51/7500, Geforce 8800 gtx, 2gb ram
Alienware laptop m5550, 2gb, 7600go
Commodore Gx9770, 4gb, quad q9300 2.5gHz , gtx 260 (replaced) - Vanilla game (no extra scripts except the upgrades from es)

Great!

Maybe I should downgrade my system back to the XP2400 and A78Nx Mobo?

Holy CRAP!!!!!!!! You should have given up a LONG time before you wasted ALL THAT MONEY...

I really enjoy this game, but it's barely worth 50 bucks in my estimation...

Buying new hardware just to play a game is ALWAYS a mistake... not to mention, usually unnecessary.

It's hardly a waste.
Time for a upgrade anyway.
It runs F.E.A.R. quite well.

If those are ATI's drivers, its quite possible that the game doesn't support them properly. There have been issues when games will work fine on an nVidia card, but not an ATI one. Try omega drivers (or the equivalent).

And yes, I know its g3y - but then theyre trying to create a monopoly. I might not like it personally, but having played an economics sim i can understand it :p

It's clearly not a driver issue.

The problem could be corrected (at first) by simply opening the graphics window in the loader screen.

Now I can only get it to work properly by loading a previous save game.
