It won't let me use the Script Manager. When I try to start the installer, it asks for the language. Then, I get this message: XScript Installer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. And nothing else happens! I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling in a different area, and downloading from different sources.

does it ask for the X3 directory, or does it crash before it gets there ?

it crashes before it gets there. I can use the XScripter Packager, the Ship Creator, and the Ship Installer all fine. And for some reason, when I try to download a lot of peoples (most, acually) .spk files, I get some weird page.
It tends to have a whole bunch of text like this:
$H-LYgWF <jj4D#_1Lj=&BR

strange, not sure whats happening there.

u could try editing the config.dat file in the main program directory, and make sure these lines are there

Code: Select all

<common>
Language: English
</common>
<installer>
Dir: C:/Games/X3
</installer>
that will get you past the questions it asks at the beginning and you can c if it loads up then

mabye that is the problem. I don't have a config.dat file. I tried seraching for one, and there is one in the Ship Manager folder, but not one for the Script Manager folder. I tried just copying the Ship one over and it didn't evne load up the language thing though, so is there any way that you can send the file to my email, daneren2005@yahoo.com, or put it up for download?

just create one, and add those lines in, changing the directory to match where you have installed X3, saved the file as config.dat and try it then.

its just a simple text file so you can use notepad to create it

finally it worked, thnx.

I don't even have the faintest clue what this problem is, but out 6 different scrips, when I try to download 3 of the spk files, I get a page full of gibberish instead of a dl link. Like here is a line of the Invasion Arena Mode script: 26\p+wK18qʁMB
Do you know whether that is a problem on my end or the scripters end?

edit: nm, ignore this. I jsut realized that all of the ones I'm having problems with are from LV. He must be having troubles.

Cycrow minor thing... sometimes when I fiddle with the manager (eg uninstalling spk, installing new spks), the manager says "error unpacking scripts" or something I can't remember exactly. Happens only when installing spks.

However, immediately quitting, restarting and retrying, it works fine. This problem existed in 1.84 and now 1.85.

i've not seen that yet arcana, ill take a look c if i can find anything.

daneren2005, the gibberish your talking about is the contents of the file, thats basically what it looks like if you open it in notepad.

some web servers seem to display spk files as webpages instead of download links. To fix it, simply right click on the link and save target as, it should then download it properly

Cycrow try this to duplicate the error:

1) Fire up plugin manager.
2) Fire up plugin packager.
3) Open any spk.
4) Exit plugin packager straight away.
5) Try to install same spk u opened previously.

It'll say "Unable to open script package". Repeatable 100%.

An odd error

Post by Dracklor » Fri, 8. Dec 06, 10:40

I'm having something funny happen with the script manager, I can get the packager to run, and the ship creator to run, however whenever I try to run either the script installer or the ship installer it won't run correctly.

What happens with the script installer is it will ask for language and folder location like its supposed to, then nothing afterwards, though there is a process running in task manager called Xscript Installer.exe.

The ship installer does the same thing, except it doesn't ask any questions first just goes straight to a background process.

Any suggestions?

arcana75, i will try that out.

Dracklor
and does it stay running in the background ?
try running the installer with -nosocket and c if that fixes it, but u'll need to make sure u kill the existing one first

Yeah it stays running in the background. I left it running all night to check (well really I was tired and fell asleep).

So I should try adding -nosocket? Where at, in the config file?

no you add it on the run line.

so if you was to run it in a command window, it would be, XScript Installer -nosocket.

you can do it via creating a shortcut for it, then editing the shortcut and adding it at the end of the program
