It is.CBJ wrote:Holy smoke, that was chaotic. I bet it's an RTS though.
I quite frankly I can't wait.
Apparently though you don't have to control EVRRYTHING. You give your "supreme commander" some guide lines and he'll tend to sort stuff out for you at your base, leaving you to play around with the fun stuff: ie, blowing shit up.

AFAIK you can do both, one unit or group the lot. You can also select multiple groups, give them a destination and they'll adjust their speeds to all arrive at the same time. CRUCIAL for a pincer strike, and as any C&C-er will tell you, a pain in the rear end to do manually.BDStyle wrote:that looks like a micro nightmare.. i bet all those single units are actually bought and controlled in groups ala Dawn of war.

I'm afraid that doesn't make it much more appealing. I have never seen the fun in RTS and I don't think I ever will. I like turn-based games like Civ where you have time to sit and think, and I like first-person games where you are in direct control, but the whole business of frantically waving your mouse about trying to highlight the moving object that you want to do something other than what it is currently doing just leaves me cold.Lutzie wrote:Apparently though you don't have to control EVRRYTHING. Aye, RTS games can be a bit of an aquired taste CBJ.
I personally prefer Advance Wars!
But that does look good.
So that's 2 games I'll have to play on my new rig.

I always found that as the genre advanced the devs of rts games added too many features that sometimes actually got in the way of playing. thats probably a failure of design more than anything though.
I just hope that it does not turn in to a build and rush implementation. Though from the magazine article they were tying to take steps to prevent that from happening.
Nevertheless some of those vehicles were moving pretty rapidly so there better be a good interface.
Personally i love RTS games, its RPG games i have never been able to get my head around.

this kind of looks like Total anhilation. You have an commander too but you have to controll it yourself. But this looks like great fun too.

Heh.. same guy, Chris Taylor, has made this game DZorro. Although it's not a true sequel to TA, it is a spiritual successor.D_Zorro wrote:this kind of looks like Total anhilation. You have an commander too but you have to controll it yourself. But this looks like great fun too.

After reading Gamespot's impression, I don't think it will be a tactical nightmare that it could be if it was like Starcraft. Apparenlty, they want to make this a Real-time War Game.
