22 Inches of Widescreen X3-loving Vertigo Fun!

Post by healdhj » Mon, 21. May 07, 12:27

Yesterday I was gifted with a Samsung 225BW Synchmaster 22 inch widescreen TFT LCD. WOW.

I upped my normal resolution to a respectable 1680x1050.

:x3:

I was nearly sick from the amount of new detail, depth, and immersion into the game :o!!!

I highly suggest this to anyone with a few duckets to spare.

BTW, I am only running a Geforce 6200, so that is the next component to be upgraded.

I've got a Samsung 206BW; 20". Same resolution. The difference between this and my old Dell 15" monitor is just ridiculous.

Sorry guys, 32" LCD Hitachi but your graphics cards are all better than mine so swings and roundabouts.
Plus my eyes will probibly be burnt out by the time I'm 50 as I sit two and a half feet away from the screen.

An LCD TV does not generally have as high a resolution as a monitor of a similar size, or even one considerably smaller. In fact your screen is probably 1366x768 whereas the 20" and 22" screens being discussed are 1680x1050.

Yep my LCD TV is 26" and is capable of 1080i which is nowhere near 1680x1050.

Still looks better than 1280x1024 though ;)

Yay! that is the same one I use. Although mine buzzes sometimes and I have to fiddle with the brightness to get it to stop... :(
I think the game looks great on the screen; somebody mentioned that X3 does a fisheye thing for widescreen resolution, but it hasn't really bothered me. I can't believe your GPU isn't choking though. I think the game looks a lot better with some of the pretties enabled (AA/AF). Things come out of the distance a lot smoother.

iMac ftw (running Windows XP under Boot Camp) - 24 inch screen, 1920x1200 resolution... The only problem is using the mouse to control the menus when all the click-buttons are so far apart!

I had the 225BW before my current 3007WFP-HC. This game is perfect for high resolutions, because of the attention to detail.

If you think the difference between 1280 * 1024 and 1680 * 1050 is something (and it is), then imagine the difference between 1680 * 1050 and 2560 * 1600.

I love this game, as not all games are kind to high resolution (bad / small textures etc.).

its running at 1366x768 where as my old run could only run at 1024x768. plus its a tv first so its improved on my old screen as a tv aswell.

Did you notice that things at the left & right edges of the screen are twice as wide as things in the center?

Pan a known object from the center of the screen out to an edge and watch it distort. A perfectly round moon is a good one to watch (look, now it's an egg!). :D

tip: when your on a site that has those big white strips down each side (like it's too narrowl!)
- use the magnifying glass in the bottom left corner to zoom it up

(in IE7, that is..)

PS: if you want to boil your eyeballs, get the G-Force visualization for WMP
..there's a free-trial thingy on the SoundSpectrum site..
- run it full screen - makes RadioHead even better...!!

PPS - the low power consumption of an LCD TFT is a bonus.. 8)
- the whole universe is running in BETA mode - we're working on it.. beep..!! :D

I recently moved my games PC into the Cinema room 8)

currently playing on a 90" projector screen...absolutely superb but only 1280x720 resolution.

However Detail remains excellent at that and makes it soooo imersive (prev 19" panasonic LCD was pretty good anyway.
