Upgraded your rig for X3:TC

Post by XanII » Thu, 11. Sep 08, 09:07

Who has upgraded his/her rig for X3:TC?

i have... :D Cranked up the ram with 1gb extra memory and a cheap but brand new Geforce 9500 GT just for TC. The old and faithfull Geforce 6600 was getting tired.

Now im ready to be entertained so please Egosoft, Entertain me. *sits down and waits patiently*

Getting that acer 18-inch laptop..
Partly due to X3-TC, partly due to the fact that the old desktop had a meltdown..
I suppose a new computing system counts as a really, really large upgrade, right?

On the side note, I believe that the CPU will be a real factor in X3:TC, not the graphics card, due to the enhanced scripts, engine and all new sectors/ships/bonkabulators/anything else that taxes CPU..

Well bring it on then. :D Just checked the prices for Dual Core processors and it sure is very cheap compared to the price i paid for my current Athlon 64 4000+ processor a couple of years ago.

Though i hope i dont need to upgrade the CPU. it has served me very good during the years and i hope i can use it for years to come.

Sorry guys, but hardware discussions, even when related to one of the X games, really belong in off-topic.

Heh, I went all the way and the single most important reason was X3:TC (and that my old rig was over 6 years old) :)
I replaced all my equipment from mouse & keybord to screen, just got it last weekend, or rather everything but my speakers, which the company had forgotten to order :(

New rig:
Case: Antec twelvehundred
CPU: E8600
CPU Cooler: OCZ Vendetta 2
PSU: PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750W quad
Mobo: Asus P5E3 Premium/Wifi
GPU: 2 x Ati radeon hd4870
RAM: 4 x 2 GB Kingston DDR3
HDD: WD 300GB + Samsung 500GB
Drives: Asus Blueray Combo & Samsung DVD
Soundcard: Creative SB X-FI Extremeaudio
Speakers: Logitech X-540
Screen: BenQ V2400W 24"
HIDs: Mouse G9 & Keyboard G15
Vista Ultimate 64bit

I've done precisely nothing and hence expect it to run like a dog :)

I wasn't planning to, but I just got a new job meaning a pay rise of about 25%. Let me reconsider that plan for a nano-second...

My current setup has been upgraded about three times, to the point now where the motherboard is running a processor faster that was available when it was released. It's going to have to be a whole new rig. Unfortunately, the job doesn't start for another three months, so I'll have to wait a bit, but that might not be a bad thing anyway given what's on the technology horizon.

I don't plan to upgrade my rig for a while yet, I might stick a Quad core CPU in it next year and maybe add a second 4850 in Crossfire mode but beyond that I think it's fine for a while.

My current rig runs X3:R decently and X3:TC is using basically the same engine, so why should I upgrade? Now, if GTA4 runs like a dog on my system, THEN I might consider upping it.

Doesnt X3:TC raise the requirements a notch?

Atleast im expecting it to do the same as XTM did for X3. Runs almost as smoothly... almost. until you spot those Centaur MkII ships in Argon Prime. which btw also had some extra stuff there.

Eek 3gigs of ram.
mm might have to stick some of my old 512 ram back in but i will see how it runs before i do that since that ram doesn't overclock as well as my current sticks

'that was fast!' was my first reaction. never before has an upgrade gotten so old.

I upgraded for Crysis, which meant my rig could run X3 quite well (large scale battles with Xenon and last battle of plot still chug), so I am hoping to play X3:TC quite comfortably, and from the look of the requirements, that should be the case.

I reckon Far Cry 2 or GTA4 are more likely to require an upgrade, but then if the XBOX 360 can handle them, my rig should be able to aswell.

Upgraded my rig over spring in anticipation fro X3:TC from an X1950XTX to dual 8800GTX and 4gb Ram which gives me about 67fps at setiings I play at.
I think the thing holding it back now is the cpu (AMD64 X2 6000+) so I am hopeful that it will be able to cope - although seeing as part of the upgrade process was water cooling I may well overclock it if it starts to struggle. Should get it upto 3.4 without much hassle.

On a bit of a side note, Egosoft has a lot to answer for. All of the upgrades on my rig have been to enjoy the X series to it's fullest effect - quite a costly journey.
On a plus note, even if by todays standards it is only a midrange rig it is still pretty cool.

I've still got the same box I built in Feb '07 (GASP!).

E6600 @ 3.4G, 2gb ram and an 8800GTX (I did buy a new monitor this past January, 24" gateway, love it)..

I should be ok. But, as I really don't have the desire or ambition to research/buy parts for a new build yet, it'll have to do. :)

Grid works on mine, I think that will do for this expansion but I'm yet to even begin X3 at all :( .
A new rig is in my hands now if only there was time...
