X3TC and Windows 7
Will X3TC run under Windows 7? I have just ordered W7 Home and will be most upset if it doesn't!

it runs under win7 RC with only one minor issue that does not effect game play.
The issue is with the sector music, only a small handful of sectors will play play with background music but im sure egosoft will address that issue when win7 is released
I have 2 copies of win7 ultimate on preorder btw.

Which existed in RC1 of Windows 7 but is fixed in RTM of Windows 7. This was an issue with Windows 7 and codecs.CBJ wrote:It's not an officially supported platform as it hasn't been released yet, but various people have tried it with pre-release versions. Most have been successful but a few have had sound-related problems.

Whoot...just as well. I've just ordered my first new PC after 5.5 years (it's an i7-870) running Vista for exactly 26 days minus an hour or two when it'll then get zapped with a shiny new Windows 7 install.
I was going to do a Windows7 (64)/Vista (64) benchmark for the forum as it'll be a very clean build until I port all my rubbish over.....

Should i replace all the MP3 files or can i copy the wma's into the file?CaptG wrote:The sector music can be corrected by converting all of the mp3 files in the soundtrack folder to wma files with a sound file converter.
I play X3TC exclusively under Windows 7 on my PC now. I found that the game play is much better under 7 than Vista.

Create backup copies of the original files first in a seperate folder, and then convert the files to wma and place them in the original folder.
Remove any remaining mp3 files in the original folder.

My retail copy arrived a couple of day before the official release day. .
30 mins to install on to blank 500GB HDD. (Windows 7 Professional Build 7600)
Copyed X3:TC 2.5 with saved games from my Vista install to the new Win7 install.
Had an hour long season hitting the Xenon sector next to Scale Place Green. I had no game play problems and would say it ran better then on my Vista install.
The system I am running duel boots between two 500GB HDD. Vista on one and Win7 on the other so the hardware is Identical. If anyone wants the info I can do a bench mark between the two operating systems.
Forgot Vista run 32bit mode and Win7 is in 64bit mode.

Well, i just reinstalled X3TC on a 7600 build of 7 (64bits).
I agree that now mp3 plays but for some songs, it's like they are in really bad quality.
When i play the songs in WMP they seems to be in full quality.
I'm using EAX & alchemy on X-fi soundcard.
To bad i can't remember wich WMA converter i used for RC-1...
