Unable to enter Terran or some other sectors, game crashes

[FourFingers]

When I take the terran start, it freezes at the moment the picture of Uranus/saturn i think appears. The game hangs indefinately, I can pull up task manager and end it.
I tried the other starts and they work fine, BUT when i take the mission at OL and am asked to enter the asteroid belt, I pass through the gate to the asteroid belt and it freezes with the anouncement going into a loop.

I thought it was just the Terran sectors but have found that I get the same response when entering Loomankstrats Legacy. I enter the gate, come out the other side and it freezes with the audio on loop.

I updated to 1.3 and same issues. Running from dvd with no scripts or mods.

Removed any codec packs that I had and still no luck.

though 1.3 might resolve it but am Stuck now.. any advice would
be appreciated!!

Starting at the very basics, I would recommend that you get that Sony ExpressFX uninstalled. I had never even heard of it, but Google is your friend and all that. They are used by Sound Forge XP and ACID Music, alas this game does have some problems with codecs and they could well be causing some issues. I would also uninstall Indeo as they can also cause issues (Does anything still use these Codecs?)

Second, is the computer itself still responsive? Can you Ctrl+Alt+Delete to get out?

I also assume that the game is patched to 1.2.1?

I'll see if I can remove those programs. To answer your questions, its only the game that becomes unresponsive, I can pull up task manager and close it down.
The game is patched to 1.2.1 and running off DVD version.

It only occurs for me in the terran sectors, none of the other sectors. Strange... maybe the voice for terrans causes the crash?!.

The Terran sectors and plot line still lock up when I enter those areas. and other sectors are giveing me the same problems.

awaiting 1.3.

Ive removed the sony codec but still same problem.

anyone have any outside the box ideas?

still freezing and locking up at terran space and also Loomankstrats legacy.
out of ideas on what to do.

I skimmed over it quickly, but didn't see anything about it, but have you tried enabling the extra memory switch in the exe header?
This will allow the game to take advantage of more than 2GB of memory (which you have).
Even if it doesn't fix this specific problem I'd recommend it anyways as the game runs much smoother with it enabled.

You could try reinstalling WMP - could help if the codecs are still messed up.
