Ye, unfortunately thats a thing with this game, when ever I add new ships the saved games no longer work.
If you wish to continue your game then revert back to the previous version you had installed, and ill make a patch to update the ships that are in that version.
I have suggested a while back in this thread that people shouldn't go hard in, just play around and test until V 1.0 , after 1.0 there will be only graphical updates and bug fixes.

I was gonna change gates to wormhole anomalies and have jump beacons in all charted sectors.
That might take some times testing.
If the Quasar is an interesting enough ship, then I guess its worth putting in (will be in next update, already have a base model somewhere).

Also how are Escape pods implemented?
Escape pods arnt functional yet, there will be a script, "Capital ship bail" when a capital ship reaches lower than 20% of its hull, all crew/marines bail in escape pods.
Thats the idea at least.
