Xai Corporatiation Jumpdrive Command Software 4.2.beta1

Post by moggy2 » Fri, 20. Aug 04, 03:16

A bit of background work on this one to. The error reporting has been improved slightly. Documentation hasn't been finished yet, but thats about it.

The beta is available at www.xai-corp.tk
Usage:
A software upgrade is now available form the Equipment dock in Kingdom End, Goner Temple and selected Argon Equipment docks, called Xai Corp. Jumpdrive Command Software. Once installed along with a jumpdrive the commands will be available in the navigation commands menu on any ship fitted with a jumpdrive.

Jump to Target
Select the command then the target destination. If you have sufficient energy the Jump countdown should start. Any ships in formation with the ship, following or protecting, will also jump, if capable, then continue their previous command.

Request Jump Status
This will check the ships in a fleet for a jumpdrive and sufficient energy. The command will not jump the fleet, it will just report which ships would not make the jump to the selected sector, or report 'Status OK' if all ships can make the jump.

Changes since version 4.1:
+ Uses Xai Corporation Advance Navigation Libraries
+ Uses AP's for communication
+ better reporting of ships not jumped
+ reports the cause of a ship not able to jump when checking jump status
- removed the jump to sector command as it's not that usefull
+ moved the check jump status command to auxiliary command menu
And this is the bit that's holding everything in beta
Xai Corporation Advanced Navigation Libraries Features

Safe Route Planning:
Ships using the libraries plot a safe route to the target sector avoiding sectors in a blacklist. The route is only planned once per journey since it can take a few seconds to check, after that it will remember the planned route and follow it. By default only the Xenon sectors are blacklisted. Now when a ship is asked to fly from New Income to PTNI Headquarters it won't try to go via Xenon Sector 347 instead it will go round the longer, but safer way.

Simultaneous Gate travel/Docking:
In addition to using a safe route, the Libraries will also sports advanced docking and gate travel for fleets and convoys. When a group such as these try to pass through the gate usually the following ships wait until the leader has actually passed through the gate or docked before following them through. With the Advance Navigation Libraries the leader will signal the ships following his intention to pass through the gate, or to dock, allowing the following ships to execute the same manouver simultaneously with the lead ship.

Danger Detection:
The libraries periodically check the sensors for enemy ships nearby. If the ship feels it's in danger it will send you a message. Whether the ship percieves nearby ships as enemies or not depends on largely on it's friend/foe settings but it will also detect if a normally friendly ship has targeted it.

Usage:
For the most part these libraries are automatically used by Xai Corporation scripts. One command is added from these libraries:

Navigate to target:
This command can be used as a replacement for Dock At..., Fly to Sector..., Follow..., using the features of the Advanced Navigation Libraries.

Yay! A feature that should have been in X2 from the beginning! Hell, forget the rest of the package - I just want this!
