New Avatar / Signature / Image size regulations

Post by BurnIt! » Sat, 13. Dec 03, 23:08

As some of the older members may be aware, we had made a rule that avatars should be no more than 80 x 80 and 6,144 bytes. There was no such restriction on signatures however, nor on users posting pictures in their posts.

We have reviewed this and decided to make a change to these forum guidelines from today. There is now a total limit on avatars and signatures combined of 50kb (so we look forward to seeing some great avatars from you all  ).
Note that the size restrictions in terms of pixel dimensions remain unchanged at 80 x 80 pixel!

We would appreciate that all members respect these rules for the future.

With regards to posting images in threads, normal forum rules apply to these with regards to acceptable content, but we would ask that users restrict these images to 50kb per image. You can make a thumbnail picture to a large picture off-site if required. With regards to forum etiquette, if you are posting multiple images of up to 50kb in one post, please make a note of this in the thread title to warn users who are on slower connections. Also, please respect that this site and forum has been optmised to run at 1024 x 768, so images over this size are not encouraged as they do not make for nice easy reading  . Please make sure your images are no wider than 800 pixel across when posted in a message. Thanks!

If there are any errors in this message or any questions, please ask The_Abyss as he wrote it

As long as Rock is ok the forum is ok too.

BTW cheers Abyss. ( what a thoroughly bloody nice bloke)

Thank you. Should prevent this from becoming the ww2ol forums, where a post that simply says "LOL OMG" is accompanied by a 500kb image.

Hey lady,

1024 bytes in 1 kilobyte.

so 6144 bytes is exactly 6 kilobytes.
so the answer to your question is no.

meaning the Ego dudes are quite generous when it comes to combined avator/sig pics size.

Hi,

I'm glad of the size capping.

But can we start to lay off the stickies? Can't we links this into the "please read first" thread? The only reason why I say this, is because we have a good load of stickies and it's in danger imho of becoming way to many.
some who deserve life receive death. Others who deserve death receive life. Can you give it to them? Don't be eager to deal out death in judgement, for not even the wise can see all ends.

Stickied so you notice the change. The fact is already in the welcome thread.
This sticky will be unstickied soon - it was just FYI (would you have noticed when I changed the Welcome thread without mentioning it?)

No skin off my nose, I already have view signatures off so I'm not regularly subjected to repetitive, giant images like with our friend The Rock up there.

Yeah, those images are quite large.

Hmm. Wonder what people will make now.

Wish there was an option to not have sigs show up after the first time they appear on a topic. Why bother having the same thing (sometimes large thing) eat up extra space.

Yes, you can. 50kb max in your 'profile' i.e. combined avatar and signature.

Unstickied (is that English?) but not forgotten. I'm sure that someone is watching
