What should I do, when I experience a Blue Screen (of Death) crash (BSOD) in-game?

If your game has BSODs while playing then submit a request for advice and assistance on the Egosoft Technical and Support Forum for the relevant game. (For X3TC or X3AP, you must have registered your copy of one of X3TC, X3AP or the SuperBox with these forums to post there.) Please supply all information and the current DxDiag asked for in the first Announcement on that forum.

Additionally, please try to record and post the information about the error that is given on the Blue Screen itself only until the system restarts or closes down. That important diagnostic information cannot be recorded by Windows (which has closed down) and so is not available for later retrieval without additional technician tools; there will be no easily-available stored error message after restart.

If the system is restarting before the BSOD screen message can be read you can prevent the automatic restart happening on future BSOD events by doing the following:

Windows Vista and Windows 7

  • Right-Click on "My Computer", and click "Properties" from the context menu that appears.

  • Click "Advanced System Settings" in the "Tasks" sidebar.

  • Click on "Settings" under "Startup and Recovery".

  • Uncheck the box labeled "Automatic Restart".

Windows XP

  • Right-Click on "My Computer", and click "Properties" from the context menu that appears.

  • Click on the "Advanced" tab.

  • Click on "Settings" under "Startup and Recovery".

  • Uncheck the box labeled "Automatic Restart".
