If you have any serious problems while starting or playing an unmodified Steam version of an Egosoft game then carry out the following action before reviewing other options:
Action:
Run the Steam verify gamefiles cache tool for your game.*
* If verifying X3AP which also uses X3TC gamefiles, it is necessary to verify both X3AP and X3TC separately.
Verification Instructions:
Open the Steam Client and right-click on your game title in the listing. Select 'Properties' from the menu that appears. Select the 'LOCAL FILES' header tab. Select 'Verify Integrity of Game Cache ...'
If nothing appears to happen, close and restart the Steam Client. You are hoping for either a repair or update download to start or continue, or for the verify to report all gamefiles are valid.
Even if you have done this action some time before, it is worth repeating whenever a new problem is encountered as Steam issues periodic updates to games that may not always install completely or without issues.
If these actions do not resolve your game issue then look at the other crash and freeze FAQs in this section as appropriate. Please state in any subsequent support request that you have very recently verified the Steam game(s).
