What are the best weapons for capturing?

Different people use different weapons. However a consensus has grown around Ion Disruptors for removing the shields repeatedly being the best weapon, with the hull damage done by Mass Drivers, or some light weapon such as a Gamma Impulse Ray Emitter. Phased Shockwave Generators are also highly effective, although more suited for incidental rather than deliberate capturing.

IonDs only affect shields which allows you to get the shields down quickly, and you can then use another laser to damage the hull. Once the hull is damaged you can switch to just IonDs and the pilot will eventually bail out, sometimes quickly but at other times not. This weapon is ideal for capturing ships with good hulls but damages installed equipment so you often get just the ship with no attachments.

PSGs can damage both shields and hull. They cause multiple hits on the ship from each shot fired and due to this, increase the chances of a pilot ejecting. The downside is that they are not as precise as IonDs and you will generally capture ships with more hull damage. A big plus is that they don't damage equipment any more than a standard laser so the chance of a captured ship retaining equipment is higher.
