      The idea would be to be able to set target points to empty space on the map. Most obvious interaction would be to set a target point to that position, but also as a starting point for further actions (like sending ur squad to that point).
      Also consider clicking on empty space with a current selected target first unselects that target.

      It would also be kind of related to add the possibility to set the y-coordinate (height) in space somehow.

        May I also expand this to not only select the empty space on the map, but also use this to create and name "waypoints" by the player. Something like waypoint alpha, waypoint bravo, charlie and so on. That way we could give better orders to your assets, like ship 1 go to waypoint alpha, ship 2 patrol between alpha and beta, ship 3 go to charlie and hold position.

        This would reduce the number of actions comapring to X3 where you had to give specific x/y/z coordinates to each squad every time. With this menthod (pre-planned waypoints) player could just set up several waypoints for the operation (like rally point, attack point, retreat point) and focus on executing them without loosing time on manual x/y/z coordinates.

        Not to mention custom set waypoints would look nice on the map.
