Functions and applications

Military Transports are cheap ships with the shielding of a weak M6 and the combat ability of a weak M4.   Their primary function is the transport of fighter squadrons over distances beyond the Energy Cell capacity of the fighters or for fighters unable to equip a Jump Drive.   Due to the ability to carry additional ships TMs also can be used to haul equipment for new ships and can be used in boarding operations to supply a Jump Drive and Energy Cells to allow the new asset to jump to safety.   TMs also are useful for Return Abandoned Ship random missions where claimed M3-M5 ships are too slow to get to the destination without a Jump Drive (or at all).   In combat TMs primarily act as bullet sponges to distract enemy fire while the docked fighter squadron does the killing.   Although able to handle pirate raiding parties, TMs and their fighters die quickly to an M6 or heavier making them ineffectual against the Xenon or any major Race.   Unless Ion Disrupters are required, stat wise the Zephyrus is far superior to all other TMs except the Advanced Chokaro however, as that can only be obtained late game it is likely to have been made obsolete by M7 and M1 ships.
