At this time of year many firms hold their Christmas parties - and Egosoft is no exception. Last Monday we headed for the snow. Nordrhein-Westfalen isn't exactly the most mountainous region in Germany, so a short trip over the border to Holland was in order so that we could let off steam at a Snowdome.
Since most of us haven't stood on skis since we were children, if at all, we were grateful for a beginners' course in which even getting ourselves fixed into our skis turned out to be an adventure. To all our amazement, though, we very soon got the hang of it and the number of fall-free descents increased noticeably.
However, everyone got their comeuppance; Michael had struggled frequently with the lift and couldn't stop himself gloating when the boss, Bernd, was knocked over by it. Our two renegades, Chris and Andi, had somewhat less luck, kitting themselves out with snowboards without expert tuition and then spending more time on their backsides than on their boards. Andi: "Only now do I realise just how many places can hurt..."
After barely 2 hours, up and down, it was finally time for a refreshment break. Right inside the Snowdome there was a fondue restaurant where we fortified ourselves. Very tasty!
Back to the fray - Michael also wanted to try out snowboarding which, after a few "lucky runs", ended with similar injuries to Andi and Chris. Oh well, it's fun when you laugh anyway, and we certainly laughed!
Meanwhile, the rest of the troop had moved onto the professional slope where the old hands among us, Martin, Chris R, Klaus and Carsten were already amusing themselves, and where our "special guest star" Helge was waving his mane across the piste. After another 2 hours had passed we finally called it a day and, visibly exhausted but happy, headed home.
Result: An excellent celebration! Thanks Bernd!
